Welton Prep School and Garfield High School are drastically
different. How you ask? In a variety of ways… you can start by the names of the
two schools. One is a prep school and the other a high school, both
institutions of learning, both places where students attend daily Monday
through Friday but different in every other way.
Welton Prep School has a reputation of excellence, the
students in this school MUST excel. If they don’t they will be looked down upon
by their peers, parents, teachers, and perhaps other leaders in the community.
Garfield High School is there for the students to go and
learn, but it doesn’t enforce learning. There are no uniforms, there is
violence and gang activity. The teachers in this school (minus Escalante) don’t
seem to give a care whether or not their students are able to excel or become
greater than what they’ve been told their whole lives.
Welton Prep School students are not allowed to express
themselves, they are students, not artists, not kids, just students.
Garfield High School the students have freedom, but only few
teachers believe in the students and their abilities.
If I had to choose between the schools I’d be homeschooled.
Neither one of them sound like much fun.
i agree with you about the expectations of the students at the different schools and how the teachers view them. I too would rather be homeschooled.
